Oleksandr Usyk wants Tyson Fury in February Saudi Arabia

  1. Usyk-Fury rematch expected in February.
  2. Riyadh event postponed.
  3. Usyk unfazed by delays.

Oleksandr Usyk is anticipating a February rematch with undisputed heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia, contingent upon Fury’s recovery from a gruelling ten-round bout with Francis Ngannou.

Delays in Riyadh

The scheduled 23 December event in Riyadh, which had been agreed upon in September, has been postponed until the following year due to the WBC champion’s non-title bout with former UFC champion Ngannou, which came perilously close to defeating him last month. The Ukrainian is unbeaten, and both he and Fury possess the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO championships.

After training in Valencia, Spain, Usyk said he will decide the date the following week. “I would very much like it to be February, and it could be February,” he stated via an interpreter. “I had planned to fight on the 23rd, but since Fury sustained injuries in his previous match, which resulted in a knockdown, it will likely be rescheduled for the following year.”

Usyk Unfazed by Delays

Usyk made it obvious he would not be bothered by the lengthy on-off bout, which would determine the first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999 and the first of the four-belt era. “I will simply complete additional technical tasks.” Nothing technically changes. “There is nothing else to do; I simply have a little more time for a few additional tasks,” he stated. “I have no thoughts whatsoever about Tyson Fury… I reflect upon myself, my family, and my team. It is unnecessary for me to consider my opponent. “All I need to do is fight alongside him.”

Usyk’s Personal Motivation

Faith and the influence of his late father, as well as comrades fighting on the front lines against Russia, were among the topics of conversation when Usyk warned Fury that he would be carrying all of that into the ring with him. “Today, my accomplishments, triumphs, and endeavours are all directed towards honouring my country and my family,” he declared.

In August of last year, Usyk faced Anthony Joshua in Jeddah. He retained his titles in a “Rage on the Red Sea” rematch of the fight, which took place in London in September 2021. On that evening, he not only captured the British belts but also carried the aspirations of an entire nation. “My late father was the first person whose actions inspired me to emulate and be like. I imitated his conduct after he gave me confidence that I could succeed,” he explained.

“While gazing at the celestial sphere in Saudi Arabia, I observed the sky and reflected: ‘I am certain you perceive my position and the actions I undertake. I am appreciative of your guidance and the support you have provided, which inspired me to reach this point.'”
