Police accuse Chiefs’ Rice of assault weeks after crash arrest

  1. Chiefs’ Rashee Rice suspected of nightclub assault in Dallas
  2. Rice, involved in previous high-speed collision, facing legal charges
  3. NFL, Chiefs silent; awaiting legal outcome, coach Andy Reid states

According to a newspaper report published on Tuesday, Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice is suspected of assault in Dallas, approximately one month after he was involved in a chain-reaction collision that resulted in multiple charges due to speeding.

Early on Monday morning, law enforcement officials informed the Dallas Morning News that Rice was suspected of assaulting an individual at a nightclub in the downtown area; the victim subsequently arrived at a hospital

Monday at 2.30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the nightclub in response to an assault report; the victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the police.

Royce West, Rice’s counsel, did not respond to an Associated Press message requesting comment. NFL and Chiefs representatives declined to comment.

Last month, Rice participated in voluntary exercises with the Chiefs. At that time, Chiefs coach Andy Reid stated that he had spoken with the receiver and that the team was awaiting the outcome of the legal process.

The former high school athlete from the Dallas area and SMU advised the Chiefs shortly after pleading guilty to various offences, including aggravated assault, in connection with the high-velocity collision with Dallas police.

West has previously admitted that Rice was driving at an excessive rate of speed in a Lamborghini SUV at the time of the March 30 collision involving six vehicles. According to the police, SMU former player Theodore Knox was operating a Corvette.

Knox and Rice, who turned 24 last month, are each facing one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision resulting in serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision causing injury, respectively.

The collision resulted in the injuries of four individuals, and according to the police, the Lamborghini and Corvette drivers fled the scene without providing any information or determining whether anyone required medical assistance.

Last season, Kansas City selected Rice in the second round. During his tenure with the Chiefs, he appeared in 20 games, including the 25-22 overtime triumph that led to a Super Bowl victory over San Francisco. During the regular season, his seven touchdown receptions led the team.
