Platinum Jubilee: Mamma Mia! Musical megastar on acting with Brian May on the Golden Jubilee – and plans for this 12 months’s competition

Mazz Murray, who performs a main function in Mamma Mia! The Musical, tells Sky News the Golden Jubilee modified her life. Now, she’s pulling out all of the stops to deliver a unique performance for the Platinum Jubilee parade on 5 June.

The festival will weave its way thru London on open-topped buses recapturing each decade of the Queen’s reign.

The musical performers will appear on their very own glide in the “Time of Our Lives” section of the carnival.

They’ve been running on a smaller, more compact version of what they do on degree, proposing a group of ABBA’s greatest Nineteen Seventies hits, to be carried out for more than an hour on the glide.

Mazz Murray, who plays the leading function of Donna, says it’s a “dream come actual” to perform on the Platinum Jubilee – but it is not the first time she’s had the respect of marking the Queen’s reign.

Twenty years in the past, she joined Brian May on level as a refrain lady for the Golden Jubilee display – after he famously opened the concert via acting God Save The Queen on his guitar from the rooftop of Buckingham Palace. The guitarist will supply the first overall performance of this yr’s concert too, along side the other participants of Queen + Adam Lambert.

Ms Murray says the Golden Jubilee was one of the exceptional days of her life, playing a large function in her career.

How Brian May helped shop her process

In 2002, she become a part of the We Will Rock You musical, which had opened some weeks before the Jubilee.

“We’d been panned by means of the critics,” she tells Sky News, “so we might all been given our notice that we had been remaining.”

“At that point, [organisers] had requested Brian May to play at the roof at the Queen’s Golden Jubilee,” she maintains. “And Brian said ‘I will, however I’d such as you to have my agency because they have all just got their word. The show is remaining.

“I’d like to provide them this due to the fact they’re now all going to be out of work.’

“And brilliantly, absolutely everyone agreed it. Roger Taylor, Brian May and Ben Elton have been instrumental in us being a part of that.

“We then go live to the nation. We sing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, and I think ‘We are the Champions’. And the majority saw our show for the first time because it had handiest been in previews [until then].”

She says the live performance led to the musical being bought out for nine years.

“It became that performance that carried We Will Rock You through and if it hadn’t been for Brian May pronouncing ‘sure I’ll play at the roof but you have got my corporation’, it might in no way have befell.”

The Platinum Jubilee pageant will involve extra than 10,000 people, inclusive of the navy, greater than 6,000 volunteers, performers and key employees and a pair of,500 members of the general public.

The blockbuster event will consist of performances from Ed Sheeran and Sir Cliff Richard, with more celebrities reportedly taking component – although organisers have no longer formally discovered all of the details.

Viewers can look forward to sights like puppet corgis, a massive 3D twine bust of the Queen, a tribute to seven many years of style, song and subculture, and the Gold State Coach.
