Thursday in Granada, both co-chaired a European leaders‘ gathering and authored an article advocating for more action. Legal challenges have arisen in their countries regarding migration policies.

Rishi Sunak and Giorgia Meloni, an Italian representative, have united to push for increased measures against unauthorised migration.

They both prioritize reducing individuals entering their countries through non-traditional routes.

Yesterday, they co-hosted a summit on the outskirts of the European Political Community Summit in Granada.

The meeting included leaders like Prime Minister Edi Rama of Albania, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Mark Rutte of the Netherlands.

The collective expressed a mutual dedication to assisting with the complexities of irregular migration. They pledged to implement eight measures to curb unlawful migration, including combating organised crime, enhancing information sharing, and updating the legal framework against people smugglers.

Recently, thousands arrived on the island of Lampedusa from Italy. This year has seen over 130,000 arrivals, compared to 71,000 last year.

Ms. Meloni praised European progress on migration issues, emphasizing the need for cooperation.

Both the UK and Italy face legal challenges to their migration programs.

Ms. Meloni and Mr. Sunak co-authored a Times article, emphasizing their resolve to address migration issues and promote cooperation.

They stated that the existing strategy is ineffective and that closer cooperation and tougher measures are needed to combat people smugglers.

UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman has called for a reform of the international asylum system, emphasizing persecution over discrimination for refugee status.
