Helen Flanagan shares mental health struggles, cancels West End

  • Coronation Street’s Helen Flanagan exits Cluedo 2 due to health
  • Mental health struggles force Flanagan’s withdrawal from theatre
  • Actress reveals turmoil after divorce, ADHD medication reaction

Helen Flanagan, best known for her portrayal as Rosie Webster on Coronation Street, was abruptly replaced in Cluedo 2 by Ellie Leach, the winner of Strictly.

Helen Flanagan, a celebrity on Coronation Street, claims she entered a psychotic state earlier this year after experiencing a “bad reaction” to her ADHD medication.

The 33-year-old actress, best known for her portrayal as Rosie Webster on Coronation Street, announced the news after a brief absence from social media over the weekend on Instagram.

She reported feeling “emotionally struggling” after divorcing footballer Scott Sinclair, the father of her three children: Matilda, seven, Delilah, five, and Charlie, with whom she shares custody.

Additionally, she explained her decision to withdraw from a theatrical tour of Cluedo 2, which commenced last month. She cited an adverse reaction to her attention deficit hyperactivity disorder medication as the cause.

The announcement that Flanagan had withdrawn from the programme for “medical reasons” was made at the time.

She wrote alongside a selfie of herself making the peace sign, “I’ve been away from social media for a few months, but I’m back now.

In December and January, I essentially laboured tremendously with my mental health. I had a terrible feeling in my head during the holiday season, and I didn’t feel all that much better after removing the children for the New Year.

There were numerous challenging circumstances that I cannot discuss on Instagram.

When I returned from vacation, I decided it would be best to take some medication to feel better and be able to cope better with being a working single mother of three children and emotionally struggling with the breakup from the father of my children. I was looking forward to my theatre tour, which I had been anticipating.

“I adore my children so much.”

She continued, “However, I had a terrible reaction to the medication (an ADHD medication) that induced a few days of unconscious psychosis.”

“However, I adore my children so much; this adverse reaction occurred just days before rehearsals began, and I was not mentally fit enough to perform.

I was devastated because I had always worked as a professional actress. Still, with the assistance of my incredible parents, I knew I needed to remain at home and recover for myself and my children.

She further stated that she was “genuinely positive and joyful” and that therapy had been “inspiring.”

She declared, “I feel lighter now that I’ve resolved some personal issues that were previously quite challenging for me.”

Cluedo 2’s Miss Scarlett was portrayed by Strictly Come Dancing champion Ellie Leach, one of the luminaries who commented on Flanagan’s post with the empathetic expression “love you” accompanied by three kisses.

Additional celebrities who expressed their support included Nadine Coyle, a former member of Ex-Girls Aloud, Carol Vorderman, and Lucy Fallon and Brooke Vincent of Coronation Street.

From 2000 to 2012, Flanagan portrayed Rosie Webster on the ITV serial opera based in Manchester. From 2017 to 2018, she reprised the role.
