Thunderstorm warning for London and the South East: “danger to life”.

The Met Office cautioned that power outages are probable and that certain towns could be cut off if weather-related road disruptions occur.

Today, analysts predict that thunderstorms and flooding might affect portions of London and the South East.

It is expected that there may be power outages, and some areas could be shut off if roads are damaged by the weather.

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms beginning at 11 am on Wednesday and lasting until 10 pm tonight.

It covers a large portion of London in addition to West Sussex, East Sussex, Kent, and Essex.

The Met Office issued a public alert:

Flooding of homes and businesses is probable and could occur rapidly, with some structures being damaged by floodwater, lightning, hail, or severe winds.

Swift or deep floodwaters will likely threaten human lives.

When flooding or lightning strikes occur, train and bus delays and cancellations are probable.

Spray and unexpected flooding may result in hazardous driving conditions and road closures.

If highways flood, it’s possible that some settlements will be cut off.

There will certainly be power outages, and other services to some homes and businesses may be interrupted.

Parts of southwest England’s highways were flooded on Tuesday, the second day of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The strong rain follows weeks of drought conditions; when the earth is too dry, it cannot absorb the rain quickly enough, thus the water floods the countryside.

The Met Office reported that Monday marked the eighth straight day in which temperatures reached 30 degrees Celsius (86F).
