Police evacuated approximately 150 residences in the vicinity of the popular pub where a knife-wielding man had four individuals captive.
A suspect’s apprehension outside the Dutch nightclub has put an end to the hostage situation that had ensued.
Four individuals were reportedly held captive in the town of Ede by a man armed with blades, according to the police.
After a prolonged standoff lasting several hours, the balaclava-clad suspect exited the Cafe Petticoat while raising his hands in the air, only to be directed to prostrate by armed police.
He was subsequently blindfolded, handcuffed, and led into a waiting police vehicle.
An investigation is underway to determine whether the suspect’s backpack contained any explosives.
Three individuals, presumed to be nightclub staff, were observed evacuating the establishment with their palms raised above their heads approximately one hour before the man’s apprehension.
A fourth individual was released before their apprehension.
After the standoff concluded, authorities verified at a news conference that a man had been arrested and was being questioned; furthermore, they stated that the man was a Dutch national who was well-known to the police.
They added that the captives were secure but “extremely emotional.”
Officers who were heavily armed had previously cordoned off a portion of Ede and warned individuals to “avoid” the area, adding, “Remain inside and refrain from approaching to observe.”
Police stated that approximately 150 adjacent residences were evacuated while authorities dealt with “a hostage situation involving several individuals.”
The man, according to the national publication de Telegraaf, allegedly entered the nightclub as it was closing and issued a “threat to blow the place up.”
Police stated that there were no indications that the captive situation was related to terrorism.

Photographs captured from the rural market town in the eastern Netherlands, approximately 53 miles (85 km) from Amsterdam, depicted firefighters and police officers patrolling the streets of the cordoned-off region.
According to the municipality, every store in the heart of Ede will remain closed.
The town’s mayor, Rene Verhulst, issued the following statement before the man’s arrest: “Although three detainees have recently been released, the situation remains ongoing. What a dire circumstance for every one of them.
My thoughts and concerns are with them and their families.
