Scottish winner: I want to return as Gladiator

  1. Edinburgh-born Army officer wins Gladiators men’s division
  2. Finlay Anderson triumphs after a tough final Eliminator round
  3. Dublin’s Marie-Louise Nicholson wins women’s division in Gladiators

An Edinburgh-born Army officer who emerged victorious in the men’s division of the renowned television series Gladiators.

After defeating civil servant and wrestler Wesley Malé, Finlay Anderson, 35, emerged victorious in the athletic competition’s championship round.

The father of two, who has completed multiple deployments in the Middle East, was tied with his opponent at the beginning of the final Eliminator level but ultimately prevailed and celebrated with his loved ones.

Dublin fitness instructor Marie-Louise Nicholson emerged victorious in the women’s division against Sheffield firefighter Bronte Jones.

In the relaunch of the acclaimed 1990s programme, competitors face off against the Gladiators in a succession of games before the Eliminator, which resembles an obstacle course.

Before this match, Mr. Malé defeated Mr. Anderson in the quarterfinals, a contest in which Mr. Anderson sustained a rib injury.

Nonetheless, as the quickest runner-up, he advanced to the subsequent round and declared himself “quite confident” heading into the final.

He proceeded: “I emerged from the cargo net and continued my journey.” We ultimately failed the travelator, prompting me to return around and offer my support. He is an exceptionally excellent individual.

“At the time of my sideways crash across the finish line, I was staring my family and acquaintances in the face. While affixed to the rope, I exchanged a wave and a stare into their faces.

“The situation was quite wild.”

Mr Anderson has recommenced his military service, which he initially enlisted in 2010.

In addition to four tours of duty in Iraq and two tours in Afghanistan, he has led an infantry company of ninety personnel on international operations.

“I half-jokingly asked the producers, ‘Do we get to be gladiators in the next season if we win?'”

“They walked away with a grin on their face and a gleam in their eye.” Therefore, while I cannot guarantee its occurrence, that would be incredible.

That might be enjoyable, but we shall see.

Should he succeed, Mr. Anderson would not be the initial competitor to attain the status of a complete Gladiator.

Inviting return as the character Blaze, Eunice Huthart, who won the women’s final in the 1994 series, appeared in the live performances of the franchise.

Mr Anderson credited his military service and the “enjoyment of working under pressure” with assisting him throughout his tenure on the programme.

His first-round victory was a razor-thin margin, thanks to an opponent error on a balance beam during the Eliminator round. In his semifinal, he encountered a several-second deficit that he successfully recovered from in the final round.

The 35-year-old stated that the most challenging portion of the championship match occurred on the Edge, where he had previously suffered a rib injury earlier in the competition.

Additionally, he expressed his desire to “excel” against the Gladiator Steel throughout the series as a Crossfit enthusiast. The Gladiator Steel is a CrossFit superstar and was crowned the United Kingdom’s Fittest Man in 2020.

Ms Nicholson entered the final round of the women’s competition with a two-second advantage and emerged victorious.

“Bronte was on my tail the entire time; what a competitor to face off against; she was so close to the finish line,” said the 28-year-old.

We have both emerged victorious.

She further stated that her strategy for the competition had been to acquire knowledge in the event of defeat or profit.

When it debuted in October 1992, Gladiators was unlike any other programme to have graced the prime-time Saturday schedule.

With an average of eight million weekly viewers, the reboot has earned a renewal for a second season.
