FBI arrests three January 6, 2021 insurrectionists

  • FBI arrested three for Capitol assault
  • Indictment, fugitive evasion
  • Ongoing aftermath, legal consequences

The arrest of three individuals sought in connection with the assault on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, was announced by United States authorities on the eve of the nation’s third anniversary of the violent attack carried out by supporters of Donald Trump.

On Saturday, at a ranch in Groveland, Florida, the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Jonathan D. Pollock, 24, Olivia M. Pollock, 33, and Joseph D. Hutchinson, 27, according to an FBI statement. On Monday, all three will be arraigned.

All of them are accused of violently entering the Capitol and assaulting officers, among other felonies.

They were indicted in April 2021. Following the assault, Jonathan Pollock promptly sought refuge, whereas his sister and Hutchinson, who were apprehended and subsequently released on bond in June 2021, evaded capture just prior to their scheduled trial in Washington, DC last March.

The FBI had proposed a £30,000 reward for information that could have resulted in the apprehension of the “armed and dangerous” Jonathan Pollock.

A 53-page indictment alleges that video recordings show Jonathan Pollock and Hutchinson repeatedly punching officers throughout the disturbances. Pollock and Hutchinson are both accused of allegedly appropriating riot shields from officers and striking an officer in the face or neck with the edge of one of the shields.

Gabriel Pollocks, the brother of the Pollocks, defended his siblings and Hutchinson in June 2021 in an interview with Lakeland’s newspaper, The Ledger, stating, “I do feel as though it is a sad political manoeuvre.”

He further stated, “I believe people are quite fed up with the manner in which the nation is being taken from the people.”

Three years ago, several thousand protesters stormed the US Capitol to prevent 2020 election results certification. The attack was incited by unfounded allegations that the election had been “rigged” against the incumbent Republican, Donald Trump.

A gathering of over 2,000 individuals infiltrated the Capitol, where they broke windows, pillaged offices, defecated in public areas, and searched for members of Congress. Although the assault ultimately failed, it has generated concerns regarding the sustainability of democracy in the United States and the increasing sway of anti-democratic factions within the Republican Party.

On Friday, former US President Joe Biden criticised former President Trump, who was in office at the time. Biden criticized Trump for his inaction on January 6 and election-related falsehoods.

“Don’t miss out! Grab your free shares of Webull UK today!”

Biden stated in Pennsylvania, “It was among the worst breaches of duty by a president in American history.”

Trump responded to Biden on Friday at a rally in Iowa. Everything has worsened under the corrupt Joe Biden administration. “Everything is in disarray,” he said. However, his discourse on the events of January 6 was succinct, as he reiterated baseless assertions that the 2020 election was tainted by extensive voter fraud.

The United States continues to contend with the aftermath of the attack. Some of the more than 950 individuals charged with federal crimes in connection with the disturbance. They are accused of seditious conspiracy, an uncommon but grave offence.

484 defendants have pled guilty to various charges, and 192 have been imprisoned, according to the US Department of Justice.
