Leeds fan hospitalized after falling celebrating goal

Chelsea and Leeds United have both confirmed that an “incident” occurred. Content on social media suggests a Leeds supporter fell from the upper tier of a corner seat in the Shed End to the vacant seats below.

A Leeds United supporter was taken to hospital after falling from the upper tier while celebrating a goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The two teams met on Wednesday night in the FA Cup fifth round, with Chelsea winning 3-2 in the dying moments of the match.

However, it was the Yorkshire club that scored first in west London in the eighth minute through Mateo Joseph.

Leeds United confirmed an “incident” occurred amid the jubilation in the away end, which is notably more crowded than usual during FA Cup matches in honour of guests.

Leeds United issued a statement confirming that an incident involving a Leeds United supporter occurred during the first half of tonight’s FA Cup match in the Shed End of Stamford Bridge.

The emergency services are currently investigating the incident.

Chelsea also released a statement

It appears that footage on social media shows a Leeds supporter falling from the upper tier of the Shed End corner.

The individual captured on camera falls onto vacant seats, where no other supporters are close enough to endanger them.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated that the family of the supporter has been informed.

The force stated that on Wednesday, February 28, officers, paramedics, and Chelsea FC staff responded to an injured man. He was in the away end of the match against Leeds United.

“The man was taken to a hospital for treatment.” An update on his condition is awaited. The family has been duly informed.

The historical rivalry between Leed United and Chelsea is considered by some to epitomise the north-south divide.
