Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, says Wayne Couzens, who killed Sarah Everard, should lose his police salary

Sadiq Khan claims Couzens is presently entitled to a deferred pension from his time as a constable for the Civil Nuclear Constabulary and has called for him to be disqualified from receiving it.

London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, wants Sarah Everard’s assassin’s Metropolitan Police salary cut.

Wayne Couzens, who was given a life sentence for the murder and rape of Ms. Everard, will no longer receive his Met pension. After Mr. Khan petitioned the Home Office to have it terminated.

Mr. Khan claims in a letter that 50-year-old Couzens is still eligible to a CNC pension from 2011 to 2018.

The UK Atomic Energy Agency manages the CNC, which protects the nuclear facilities of the UK (UKAEA).

Mr. Khan has therefore penned a letter to Energy Secretary Grant Shapps requesting that he take similar actions regarding the pension of Mr. Couzens as the Home Secretary did.

He wrote: “I am aware that Couzens joined the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) in 2011 as a constable. But he did not transfer his pension service to the MPS in 2018.

“It remains there and is not covered by the pension forfeiture certificate I was able to procure. Also it does not fall under the normal police pension regulations.”

According to Mr. Khan, this would result in Couzens receiving a pension deferral of seven years.

The mayor’s spokesman continued. “If Couzens received any pension, his victims and the people would be appalled.

“The rules must be tightened to ensure that anyone. Who commits such abhorrent offenses has their publicly-funded pension revoked promptly and in full.”

Couzens was sentenced to life in prison in September 2021 for kidnapping, raping, and killing Ms. Everard, 33, in south London in March of that same year.

He was convicted of three counts of indecent exposure days before killing Ms. Everard in February.

Last month, Baroness Louise Casey found the Met institutionally sexist, racist, and homophobic after Ms. Everard’s death.
