On Friday, a Greater Manchester Police spokesman identified four people who were reported missing on July 21 and were believed to have been in the mill at the time of the incident.

The police report that 39-year-old Cuong Van Chu arrived in the United Kingdom in June 2019 and had frequent communication with his wife and children until 7 May, but they have not heard from him since.

According to authorities, Uoc Van Nguyen, 31, had regular communication with his wife until May 7, when he reported being in a mill.

The force spokesman stated that Duong Van Nguyen, 29, had been in the United Kingdom for around one year and had last communicated with his family approximately three months ago, when he said he was living in a “abandoned house” and seeking employment.

Nam Thanh Le, age 21, arrived in the United Kingdom in January and last communicated with his family on 4 May, when he said he was staying in a dilapidated house in “Dam,” thought to be Oldham, and looking for work.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes stated his “thoughts remain with their families.”

Specially-trained officials were in contact with them, and they were being “completely updated and supported in Vietnam, as they would be in the United Kingdom,” he said, adding that the search at Bismark House Mill continued to “guarantee the recovery of any human remains and any significant artefacts.”

He stated, “Although we have reason to believe Cuong, Uoc, Duong, and Nam were in the mill during the fire, we are maintaining an open mind regarding the total number of individuals present.”

Det. Supt. Hughes urged anyone with information on other individuals who may have been present to come forward, emphasising that “their safety and well-being is our top priority.”

He continued, “We continue to seek information about the fire and the mill’s prior actions.”
