Metallica score their first UK number-one album in fifteen years.

72 Seasons, Metallica’s fourth UK number-one album, is their first in 15 years.

On Friday, their eleventh album outsold the rest of the top five combined.

“First place in the UK? Spectacular! Frontman James Hetfield expressed gratitude to the Official Charts. “Thank you, United Kingdom; I can’t wait to see you!”

Before headlining Download, Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album, 1996’s Load, and 2008’s Death Magnetic topped the charts.

Before Saturday’s Record Store Day, their most recent vinyl release, which features typically dark and ferocious songs such as “Screaming Suicide,” was also the most popular vinyl release of the previous week.

“It’s one of the few things that hasn’t changed in 40 years,” remarked Metallica’s 59-year-old percussionist Lars Ulrich.

“There will be a plethora of riffs, jams, and sound checks, and it’s my job to sift through them and determine, ‘That one’s great, that one’s good, maybe there’s a song here’.”

Metallica beat The Weeknd’s greatest hits collection The Highlights and Taylor Swift’s Midnights.

Wish You The Best, Lewis Capaldi’s latest emotive ballad from his forthcoming second album Broken by Desire to Be Heaven-Sent, debuted at number one on this week’s singles chart.

The Scotsman joins David Bowie, Beyoncé, and the Bee Gees with five number-one songs.

“Thank you to everyone who purchased or streamed the song, and best wishes for the future,” said Capaldi, who recently revealed on stage that he has Tourette’s. “To all my enemies, I hope you perish in the flames…”

Lewis Capaldi revealed in the recent Netflix documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I Feel Now how the phenomenal success of his 2019 debut album had affected his mental health.

“The first album was as close to a dream come true as it was possible to get,” he said. “However, as soon as the first album is successful, the question arises: can he do it again?”

His melancholy ballad Someone You Loved became the UK’s most streamed song last year, surpassing Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You.

His latest chart-topper pushed last week’s number one, Miracle, by fellow Brits Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding to the number two slot, while US TikTok sensation David Kushner debuted in the top 10 with Daylight at number three.
