Hexham stabbing: 15-year-old girl’s murder arrested

A 15-year-old girl was stabbed to death in Northumberland.

She was tragically wounded around 17:10 GMT on Friday in the Priestpopple neighborhood of Hexham.

She and a 16-year-old boy were rushed to the hospital, where the girl subsequently passed away. It is not believed that the boy’s injuries are life-threatening.

Northumbria Police reported that a second 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder after being initially detained on suspicion of assault.

He remains detained.

“A time of devastation for families”

The police stated that they believed the three adolescents knew each other.

Ch Supt Sam Rennison termed the death of the girl a “tragedy.”

At a press conference, she thanked members of the public for their assistance, “especially those who attempted to help the injured boy and girl at the site.”

“This is a heartbreaking time for these young people’s families. We must continue to give them specialized assistance and guidance in the following days, weeks, and months.

“We are evidently in the initial twenty-four hours of the investigation. I am not going to share any further information at this time”.

However, we do not believe there is a risk to the community as a whole. It is being treated as an isolated incident.”

In response to a question about the weapon, she declined to provide more information than that it was “a bladed article.”

Officers remain in the area to complete their investigations and provide community comfort.

“Destroy so many lives”

The mayor of Hexham, Derek Kennedy, stated that the city was “in full shock.”

“The loss of one of our children who attends a nearby high school is unfathomable.

“It’s alarming that both the victim and the alleged perpetrator are young and that the incident occurred at 5 p.m. on a busy street.

“Everyone is struggling to make sense of it.

It will ruin numerous lives.
