A southern Pakistani train crashed, killing 30 and injuring 100, according to a police spokesman.

Several carriages of the Hazara Express overturned near the Sahara railway station in Nawabshah, approximately 275 kilometers (117 miles) from Karachi, the largest metropolis in Pakistan.

Passengers with injuries were transported to adjacent hospitals. Teams are attempting to extricate individuals from the contorted wreckage.

Accidents are prevalent in Pakistan’s antiquated railway system.

Minister of Railways Saad Rafiq stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the train was traveling at a normal speed and that they were attempting to determine what caused the derailment.

A spokesperson for the railways in Karachi stated that at least eight carriages veered off the track.

According to local broadcaster Geo, some individuals were still trapped inside a train compartment.

“We don’t know what happened, we were just sitting inside,” said a woman who was rescued from a carriage as others were taken away in an ambulance.

In the major institutions of Nawabshah and the surrounding districts in Sindh, an emergency has been declared.

Social media videos depict scores of people at the accident site, with some passengers climbing out of the overturned carriages.

Train service has been suspended in the interior districts of Sindh.

Information Minister of Sindh Sharjeel Memon stated that the government’s main priority was “rescue operations, on which we are completely focused.”

Two trains collided in Sindh province in 2021, resulting in at least 40 deaths and dozens of injuries.

According to local media, 150 persons perished in such incidents between 2013 and 2019.
