First Bafta Games Awards 2024 longlist

  • Bafta Games Awards longlist
  • Alan Wake 2, Baldur’s Gate 3 lead
  • Nominations on March 7

The Bafta Games Awards have released their list of prospective nominees for the first time.

The longlist comprises sixty games spanning seventeen distinct categories, set to be refined into the final shortlist in preparation for the 2024 event.

Accolades presented include Best Game, Best British Game, Best Narrative, and awards for Best Lead and Supporting Performances.

Alan Wake 2 is nominated fourteen times, whereas Baldur’s Gate 3 is longlisted fifteen times.

The survival horror and the epic role-playing game based on Dungeons and Dragons were the major winners at the Game Awards in Los Angeles last week.

Spider-Man 2 is listed ten times on the Bafta longlist despite not receiving any accolades at the industry gala hosted by American journalist Geoff Keighley.

Hogwarts Legacy, which received no Game Award nominations, is nominated in nine categories.

Having a game on the longlist does not guarantee an award nomination, but it does indicate probable frontrunners.

Bafta Games Awards: Voting Process and Diverse Longlist

A jury of approximately one thousand Bafta members votes on the Best Game and Best British Game, while specially appointed panels determine the remaining honors.

Bafta’s Best Game award encompasses independent and high-budget titles, in contrast to the Game Awards’ distinct categories. This year, 2D creature slayer Vampire Survivors beat fan favourite God of War: Ragnarok.

The longlist for 2024 also includes Cocoon, Dave the Diver, and Dredge, in addition to triple-A successes.

The longlist of the Best British Game encompasses a diverse selection of games. It includes Football Manager 2024, the turn-based monster battler Cassette Beasts, and the photography-themed puzzler Viewfinder.

Tara Saunders, the chairman of the Bafta Games committee, previously discussed the decision to release the longlist this year with the website GamesIndustry.biz. She explained that the intention was to “illustrate a broader range of games prior to the jury and round two vote stages.”

The nominations will be disclosed on March 7, 2024, and the awards ceremony will commence on April 11, 2024.
