Rachel Riley blasts ‘hideous’ ‘unthinkable’ Israel-Hamas war

Rachel Riley’s Concern for the Israel-Hamas War

Women of the Year, an event that honors “every woman from every background,” demonstrates that individuals from radically diverse backgrounds “can coexist harmoniously,” according to Riley.

Humanitarian Crisis and Conflict Toll

Rachel Riley states that she finds it difficult to observe the “hideous” Israel-Hamas war due to the fact that, as a mother, her children serve as a constant reminder of the plight of families ensnared in the conflict.

The Countdown star, who is also the parent of two young daughters, expressed that the events were “incomprehensible” and that her thoughts were with every family “enduring this most dreadful of times.”

At least 1,400 Israelis were murdered in an unprecedented attack by Hamas on October 7, and the Israeli military has retaliated with airstrikes in Gaza that have claimed the lives of over 2,800 Palestinians.

As a result of the inability of humanitarian aid to traverse the Egyptian border, food and water supplies for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are dwindling, and the whereabouts of the 199 hostages being held in Gaza remain unclear.

Riley’s Address at Women Of The Year Awards

Riley stated at the Women Of The Year Awards, an honoring ceremony for pioneering women in technology and education, “Civilized people cannot tolerate terrorist acts.” It’s 2023.

“We mean never again when we say never again.” We do not anticipate attendees to be attired in swastikas and jackboots. And we cannot tolerate terrorism regardless of its origin. It breaks my heart to think of every family in the world who must endure abhorrent politics and extremism.

“Recently, while I was traveling in the car, my children were in the backseat and they were wailing and sobbing because one of them was in possession of a plastic aeroplane and the other was vying for it.

“I literally halted in that instant and experienced a moment of joy and peace.” However, my children were yelling concerning a plastic aeroplane. “[The Gaza situation] is beyond comprehension.”

Women of the Year, an event that honors “every woman from every background,” demonstrates that individuals from radically diverse backgrounds “can coexist harmoniously,” according to Riley.

“It’s hard at times, but we can speak to each other, engage.”

Promoting Unity and Peace Amidst Conflict

She lauded the efforts of the Jewish-Muslim women’s network Nisa-Nashim, whose name translates to “women” in both Arabic and Hebrew, and stated that such organizations were crucial to preventing future conflict.

It is currently more crucial than ever to prevent anything from dividing us. “Men rule the world everywhere, and even peace protests in Jerusalem two weeks ago, which saw the simultaneous marching of Palestinian and Israeli women, demonstrate that this is the last thing that will ever bring peace to anyone.”

For his Holocaust teaching and antisemitism fight, Riley received an MBE in July.

As she reflected on this honor, she stated, “At this moment, it is more apparent than ever that providing services for Holocaust education entails preventing future occurrences of this nature.”

“I’m extremely enthusiastic about endeavors such as these that foster unity among individuals. That involve individuals conversing with one another in person. Such is the method to proceed. Furthermore, it is imperative that we consistently reinforce within ourselves the rationale behind our actions and the objectives we seek to accomplish.
