Neighbours’ Mischa Barton: The OC actress eager to be part of ‘iconic show’s next chapter’ after revamp

Mischa Barton rose to prominence for her role as Marissa Cooper in The OC, a popular 2000s program about the residents of Orange County, California. This may appear to be an unusual choice, but this is not the first time Ramsay Street and Newport Beach have collided.

Mischa Barton is poised to join Neighbours for the revival of the Australian soap opera Ramsay Street.

The actress, who rose to prominence in the early 2000s hit show The OC, will guest star in the upcoming series; this was confirmed just months after Channel 5 in the UK canceled the original show.

The official Neighbours social media accounts stated in a statement that the actress will portray Reece, a newcomer to the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough who is “not quite whom she appears to be.”

Barton, 37, said, “I’m excited to be a part of the next chapter of this iconic show, and I’m looking forward to returning to Australia, a place I know and adore!

I believe that Reece will be a fantastic character for me to investigate and play with.

Before becoming a household name for her role as Marissa Cooper in the first three seasons of The OC, Barton appeared as a juvenile actor in The Sixth Sense and later in the film Lawn Dogs.

The program chronicled the lives of a close-knit group of residents in the affluent community of Newport Beach, Orange County, California.

In addition to Adam Brody, Rachel Bilson, and Ben McKenzie, the series featured Olivia Wilde, George Lucas, Amber Heard, Paris Hilton, and Chris Pratt in cameos and guest appearances.

The OC-Neighbors connection

Alan Dale, who portrayed Jim Robinson in the 1980s and ’90s Australian soap opera Neighbours, starred in The OC as Marissa’s stepfather, the ruthless businessman Caleb Nichol.

Barton also appeared in the music video for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds song Everybody’s On The Run.

Former stars including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Guy Pearce, and Margot Robbie joined the cast for what was believed to be the final episode of Neighbours in July 2022, 37 years after the series premiere.

It occurred because the soap opera was unable to secure new funding.

The audience is going to adore her.

Streaming service Amazon Freevee and production company Fremantle have announced a revival of the series, with a new season set to premiere on the service in the autumn.

With Neighbours launching on Amazon Freevee in North America, we are ecstatic to have an actor of Mischa’s caliber join us at the beginning of this exciting new chapter,” said Neighbours’ executive producer Jason Herbison.

“Mischa’s personality is dynamic and erratic, and she will have an immediate impact on Ramsay Street. Our local and international viewers will adore her.”

Karl and Susan Kennedy, Toadie Rebecchi, and Paul Robinson will return in the revival of Neighbours, among other fan favorites.

It will premiere exclusively on Amazon Freevee in the United Kingdom and the United States. and the site will also broadcast thousands of previous Neighbours episodes.

The series will also be available on Prime Video in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
