Midnights by Taylor Swift breaks streaming records on Spotify.

Her new album departs from the intimate indie songwriting of Folklore and Evermore in favor of electronica, synth-pop, and occasionally hip-hop-influenced sounds.

Taylor Swift commended her fans for “doing something mind-blowing” as her new album smashed the record for most streams in a single day on Spotify.

Friday’s release of the pop star’s latest single, Midnights, created a rush of curiosity and caused a bit of a fuss with its profane lyrics.

Less than twenty-four hours later, the music streaming giant reported that the album had the most streams in a single day in the history of the site.

Swift responded to the news by writing: “How did I become so fortunate to have you people out here doing something so mind-boggling?

“Like what even just happened?!”

It comes after Spotify customers reported a significant increase in outages following the release of the new album.

Swift has referred to the album as the tale of “13 restless nights spread throughout my life” and “a voyage through terrors and wonderful dreams.”

It departs from the intimate indie songwriting of her previous two albums, Folklore and Evermore, in favor of electronica, synth-pop, and occasionally hip-hop-influenced beats.

Swift has once again collaborated with Jack Antonoff, the lead singer of the rock band Bleachers, on the majority of the album.

In an Instagram post commemorating the album’s release, she tagged Antonoff as her “co-pilot” in a photo of herself with her collaborators.

She said: “Midnights is an amalgamation of intensity, peaks and valleys, and ebbs and flows.

“Life might be dark, starry, overcast, frightening, energizing, hot, cold, romantic, or lonely. Just like Midnights.”
