Adult Swim has terminated the contract of Rick and Morty co-creator and voice actor Justin Roiland. As he prepares to defend himself against domestic abuse accusations brought by an ex-girlfriend.

Mr. Roiland refutes the allegations. A trial date has yet to be determined.

Adult Swim has discontinued its affiliation with Justin Roiland, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.

“The series will continue. Season seven is currently being developed by a talented and devoted group.

In May 2020, prosecutors in California charged Mr. Roiland, 42, with two charges of domestic battery with corporal injury and false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, and/or deceit, of an unidentified lady who was residing with him at the time.

According to a police report, the event, which allegedly occurred on or around January 19 of the same year, left the woman with a “traumatic condition.”

His attorney stated that his client was “innocent” in a statement, adding, “We look forward to clearing Justin’s name and assisting him in moving ahead as quickly as possible.”

Mr. Roiland appeared in court earlier this month for a pre-trial hearing and is scheduled to return in April in preparation for a trial. He faces up to seven years in imprisonment.

Together with Dan Harmon, he created the anarchic animated sitcom in 2013. And it won the Emmy for the best-animated show in 2018 and 2020.
