Holly Valance opposes ‘leftie’ ideals. Rees-Mogg for PM

  • Holly Valance supports Rees-Mogg
  • Attends PopCon with Nick Candy
  • Criticises “leftie” ideas

On Tuesday in Westminster, former Neighbours actress Holly Valance, who is married to British businessman Nick Candy, attended the inauguration of the Popular Conservatism movement, or “PopCon”, organised by Liz Truss.

The former Neighbours star endorsed Jacob Rees-Mogg for prime minister and dismissed “leftie” ideas as “complete nonsense.”

At the event, the actress, model, and former singer, whose 2002 hit song “Kiss Kiss” topped the charts in the United Kingdom and Australia, expressed her views during the launch of the Popular Conservatism, or “PopCon” movement, led by former prime minister Liz Truss.

In an interview at the event, Valance, alongside her husband, British property magnate Nick Candy, praised the speakers as “fabulous.”

She said, “I would say everyone starts as a leftie and then has an awakening at some point after they start working, earning money, running a business, or buying a home, and realise what a sham these ideas are.” They then move to the right.

Valance told GB News that she found Ms. Truss “extremely, extremely engaging to listen to,” adding, “Jacob for prime minister.”

Additionally, the forty-year-old commended former deputy Tory party chairman and Ashfield MP Lee Anderson as “awesome,” saying, “I love a northerner who is straightforward, sensible, and for real people.”

PopCon: Sparking Conservative Dialogue

The PopCon organisation claims its goal is not to replace Rishi Sunak as Conservative leader but to spark a discussion on ideas.

The conference featured speeches from Conservatives including Ms. Truss, Mr. Rees-Mogg, and Mr. Anderson, who criticised the government’s positions on smoking bans, the net-zero approach, the European Convention on Human Rights, taxation, and quangos.

Ms. Truss argued that the current administration was failing to confront “extremists on the left” and encouraged “covert Conservatives” to stand for election and support the party.

Former Home Secretary Dame Priti Patel, former Chief Whip Wendy Morton, former Conservative Party Chair Sir Jake Berry, MP Brendan Clarke-Smith, and Tory peer Lord Frost also attended.

Valance played Felicity “Flick” Scully on the Australian soap opera Neighbours from 1999 to 2002. In 2022, Valance and Natalie Imbruglia returned for what was thought to be the final episode, before Amazon Freevee revived the series.

After leaving Neighbours, she released two albums in 2002 and 2003, marking the start of her music career. In the mid-2000s, she appeared in films such as Taken, alongside Liam Neeson, and the television series Prison Break.

Zimbabweans, smugglers anxious, monitor South Africa’s election

A Toyota Hilux with South African license plates stops and honks its horn along the roadside in Nkwana hamlet, Matabeleland South province, Zimbabwe. As she approaches the vehicle, the driver hands an older woman a parcel containing groceries, a blanket, and a small envelope containing an unspecified amount of cash. "Malaika" is the Ndebele term for the cross-border drivers transporting goods from Zimbabwe to South Africa. Thulani Ncube, 42, is the driver, whose real name we withholds to safeguard his privacy. He delivers supplies to villagers in the frontier region every two weeks, most of which are smuggled.
