Beijing conducts additional military exercises near the island.

China’s military says it is continuing its large-scale military exercises around Taiwan after the conclusion of Sunday’s live-fire operations.

The Eastern Theatre Command of the Chinese army stated that it would train anti-submarine attacks and maritime raids.

The previous four days of exercises were Beijing’s response to the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Taiwan has accused China of practicing an invasion of the island with these exercises.

Taiwan stated on Monday that Chinese aircraft and ships have not yet crossed its territorial seas, which stretch 12 nautical miles (22 km; 14 miles) from the coast.

The United States, along with Australia and Japan, has criticized the drills, claiming that their purpose is to alter the status quo in the Taiwan Strait – the 180-kilometer-wide (110-mile-wide) body of water that separates the Chinese mainland from Taiwan.

During the exercises, Chinese aircraft and ships have frequently breached the middle line in the strait. However, Taiwan’s defense ministry stated on Monday that the median line is a tacit agreement that dates back to the 1950s and that its presence is a “fact.”

In retribution for Ms. Pelosi’s visit, Beijing has severed cooperation in several areas, including climate change, with the United States.

Beijing views Taiwan as a separatist province that it may, if necessary, reclaim by force.

Taiwan, however, is an autonomous island that views itself as distinct from China.

China is enraged, though, by any indication of acknowledgment from Western leaders.

The resumption of action surrounding Taiwan follows the announcement by Chinese maritime officials that exercises would also be conducted in other regions.

The Yellow Sea, which is located between China and the Korean peninsula, will host live-fire military maneuvers every day from Saturday through the middle of August.

In addition, a month-long military operation began on Saturday in a region of the Bohai Sea, north of the Yellow Sea.

In addition, China announced live-fire exercises in the South China Sea off its coast on Monday.
