Police commissioner Keechant Sewell told reporters, “A 19-year-old guy approached an officer without provocation and attempted to assault him with a machete to the head.”

The male then used the machete to strike two additional officers in the head.

It is believed that one of the intended victims, who was not gravely injured, shot the suspect in the shoulder, allowing for his arrest.

All three cops have injuries that are not life-threatening. One has a fractured skull, while the other has a severe cut.

No motive has been identified as of yet.

However, law enforcement officials were said to be investigating whether the individual who allegedly attacked the policemen had previously written online what they referred to as jihadist literature and whether he traveled to New York City to target police.
