Jasmine Hartin pleads guilty to negligent manslaughter after Belize police officer shot.

After a gunshot, 42-year-old Henry Jemmott was found dead on a San Pedro pier in May 2021.

Jasmine Hartin, a Canadian socialite, pled guilty to manslaughter by negligence in the shooting death of a Belizean police superintendent.

The former partner of Andrew Ashcroft, the son of Conservative aristocrat Lord Ashcroft, filed the complaint in Belize City’s Supreme Court regarding the murder of 42-year-old Henry Jemmott. Her trial was scheduled to begin today.

Outside the courthouse, Hartin was quoted by Channel 5 Belize as saying, “I just want Henry’s family to have peace and to put this whole thing behind us so we can all heal.

The judge explained there is a possibility that Hartin will receive a non-custodial sentence. Which would consist of a fine and/or restitution to the victim’s family, according to the channel’s report.

Hartin was found on a pier beside Superintendent Jemmott’s body in San Pedro in May 2021 after gunfire complaints.

Police Commissioner Chester C. Williams told local media that officers found a woman with blood on her limbs and clothing on a pier after hearing a gunshot.

A firearm belonging to and allotted to the father of five was recovered from the pier, he added.

According to the police, Hartin and Jemmott were companions.

Hartin’s attorney, Orson ‘OJ’ Elrington, told reporters that his client’s primary concern was “not putting the victim’s family through the agony of having to endure a trial proceeding.” Hartin consistently conveyed this concern, according to Elrington.

The sentencing hearing is anticipated to occur on May 31, according to Channel 5 Belize.

Mr. Elrington also predicted that the judge would not send Hartin to prison because he pleaded guilty.
