The Syrian defense ministry confirmed Israeli attacks on Facebook.

Syrian defense officials asserted that air defenses had effectively intercepted some of the missiles in response to the attacks.

No casualties had been reported as a result of the strikes, only material damage.

In the meantime, Syrian state media reported explosions near Damascus.

No injuries or damage were reported after Syrian rockets triggered Golan Heights air raid sirens.

Lebanese media reported that the Al-Quds Brigade, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement supported by Iran, had claimed responsibility for the attacks.

In a statement released early on Sunday morning, the Israeli Defense Forces stated that they “hold Syria accountable for all activities occurring on its territory and will not tolerate any attempts to violate Israeli sovereignty.”

Meanwhile, Jordan, which shares borders with Israel and Syria, reported that a projectile exploded in the air on Saturday evening, with fragments landing on Jordanian soil. They did not specify where the missile originated.

The Jordanian army reported no injuries or damage from debris in Wadi Aqraba.

During the Six Day War in 1967, Israel acquired the Golan Heights, a 1,200-square-kilometer (460-square-mile) area previously controlled by Syria, and subsequently annexed it in 1981, a move not recognized by the majority of the international community.

The assaults occur as regional tensions intensify. Israel attacked several Hamas targets in southern Lebanon on Friday. Accusing the Palestinian militant group of launching 34 missiles into northern Israel on Thursday.

Hundreds of Palestinians have barricaded themselves inside the Al-Aqsa mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, sparking concerns of further clashes with Israeli security forces.

The Israeli police raided the mosque last week, claiming that “agitators” had barricaded themselves and worshippers inside.

If police storm the mosque, Jordan, which administers the religious complex, has warned of catastrophic consequences.
