US Navy intercepts Yemeni rockets ‘possibly approaching Israel’

Intercepted Missiles and Drones from Yemen

According to US officials, missiles and drones launched from Yemen by the Houthi movement, which is aligned with Iran, were intercepted by a US Navy warship.

Possible Threat to Israeli Targets

A spokesman for the Pentagon stated that the missiles were potentially directed at Israeli targets.

On Thursday, the guided-missile destroyer USS Carney was engaged in operations in the northern Red Sea.

Increased Vigilance Amid Ongoing Conflict

In recent days, US soldiers stationed in Iraq and Syria have been subjected to multiple attacks, according to the Pentagon.

Israel’s ongoing assaults on Hamas targets in Gaza have heightened Washington vigilance regarding the activities of Iranian-backed organisations.

Brigadier General Patrick Ryder of the Pentagon stated that multiple drones and three land attack cruise missiles launched from Yemen had been shot down.

The incident resulted in no reported injuries, and a United States official stated that the warship did not seem to have been the intended target.

He told reporters, “We cannot say with certainty what these missiles and drones were aimed at, but they were launched from Yemen and are potentially en route to targets in Israel along the northern coast of the Red Sea.”

Defensive Response and Regional Concerns

Brigadier Ryder further stated that they were still analyzing the nature of the activity and that the assault could potentially continue.

He stated that our defensive response was one we would have implemented in response to a comparable threat in the region, given our capability to do so against our partners and personnel with vested interests.

The Pentagon acknowledged drone and missile launches from US and multinational locations in Iraq.

“A small number of troops” were injured in one of the assaults.

Iraqi militant organizations warned the United States not to aid Israeli operations against Hamas in Gaza.

On Wednesday, a drone struck American forces in Syria, resulting in minor injuries; they shot down another drone.

I cannot predict reactions to these strikes, but I will protect US and ally personnel at all costs. Brigadier Ryder declared.

The Middle East is home to numerous American bases containing warships, personnel, and fighter aircraft.

Over the past week, the US sent two aircraft carriers, 2,000 marines, and support vessels to the Middle East.

The White House asserts that “no plans or intentions” exist regarding their utilisation.

It does, however, imply that the United States’ military assets would be prepared to safeguard national security interests if necessary.

The Houthi militants of Yemen, whom the United States holds accountable for the recent attacks, enjoy Iranian support.

Since 2014, the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and the Houthis have fought a civil war.

Pentagon General Ryder also stated that the United States continues to analyse the assaults in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.

“Our continued priority will be to prevent a potential escalation into a more extensive regional conflict,” he said, adding that there was no evidence at this time linking the 7 October Hamas attacks in Israel to anything in particular.
