As the Yemeni group targets shipping channels in the Red Sea, the United States and the United Kingdom have conducted six air strikes against targets in Yemen, according to a television station that is controlled by the Houthis.

Al Masirah TV reported that four attacks were directed at the airport of Hodeidah, a major port city on the Red Sea, and the seaport of Salif, which is located to the north of the city. The news outlet also reported that two air assaults occurred in the Al-Thawra region, which is located to the north of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

The attacks were not confirmed by the US and UK militaries, and there were no immediate reports of casualties. The assaults that took place on Friday were in response to the US and UK attacks on Hodeidah province, which the Houthis claimed resulted in the deaths of 16 individuals last week.

For months, the Houthis, who maintain control over Sanaa and identify themselves as the official Yemeni armed forces, have been launching missiles and drones at Israeli targets and attacking shipping channels in the Red Sea as a demonstration of their solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza.

The Houthis claimed that they used drones and missiles to attack two ships in the Red Sea that were en route to Israel later on Friday.

The United States and other Western nations have been incensed by the Yemeni group’s operations. Since January, the United States and its allies have been conducting aerial bombings against Houthi targets in Yemen. However, the military campaign has failed to deter these attacks.

Regularly, the United States military declares interceptions of Houthi attacks. It declared the destruction of eight Houthi drones that were launched over the Red Sea on Thursday.

In response to the “massacres of the Israeli enemy in Rafah” in the southern Gaza Strip, the Yemeni group announced that it had initiated two joint military operations with the Islamic Resistance in Iraq against ships at the Israeli port of Haifa on the same day.

Israel’s conflict with Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 36,700 individuals since October 7.

Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthi group, stated that the group’s operations against Israel would be augmented in collaboration with the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iraqi armed groups that are supported by Iran.

The Houthi, US, and UK attacks have sparked apprehensions regarding the potential for the conflict in Gaza to escalate, as well as the efforts to resolve Yemen’s civil war. The Houthis have been engaged in a conflict with forces that are loyal to the internationally recognized government and are supported by Saudi Arabia since 2014.

Since 2022, a fragile truce has been in effect.

As per a Bloomberg News report that was published on Thursday, Washington intends to obstruct significant components of a United Nations peace plan that the warring parties in Yemen adopted in December unless the Houthis discontinue their attacks on international shipping.
