Wayne Couzens: Indecent exposure police misconduct cases

Two police officers have been charged with misconduct for their handling of allegations of indecent exposure by Sarah Everard’s murderer, Wayne Couzens.

According to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC), a Metropolitan Police officer is facing charges of gross misconduct.

According to the IOPC, a Kent Police sergeant faces a separate disciplinary hearing for flashing.

Monday, Couzens, 50, was guilty of three counts of indecent exposure.

The guilty pleas pertained to three events that occurred in Kent: two in a fast-food restaurant in February 2021 and one in Deal’s woods in November 2020.

Regional head of the IOPC Sal Naseem stated, “We were unable to publicize our findings until now owing to the possibility of jeopardizing Couzens’ criminal proceedings.”

“Now that these investigations have ended, it will be up to the Metropolitan and Kent police forces to organize disciplinary processes that will evaluate the information we have acquired and determine whether the charges against the officers are true or false.”

Couzens is serving a life sentence for the abduction, rape, and murder of Sarah Everard, age 33, in March 2021.
