UK EuroMillions winners thought they won £2.60 initially

  • Lancashire couple wins £123 million
  • Initially thought they won £2.60
  • Quitting jobs, planning lifestyle changes

The Lancashire couple shared the £123 million reward with a Spanish winner.

The winners of a £61 million EuroMillions jackpot from the United Kingdom have been identified as Richard and Debbie Nuttall, who initially believed they had only won £2.60.

The fortunate couple, both aged 54, from Colne, Lancashire, each obtained a £61,708,231 portion of the £123 million jackpot reward in the 30 January draw; the other winning ticket was acquired in Spain.

Mr. Nuttall, speaking to the media today at the Mitton Hall Hotel in Clitheroe, Lancashire, stated, “We are in a state of disbelief; the sum of money is enormous. You fantasise about winning the lottery, but you never believe it will be you. However, it does happen.”

He disclosed that earlier this year, while on vacation in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, he was reviewing his email. He discovered a message from the lottery informing him of a £2.60 win. And he then informed his wife of the news.

She replied, “Boo hoo, that will go well with a bacon butt.”

Following that, he left for the day and returned to the room. Then, he examined his email and discovered a lottery-related message requesting another account verification.

Mr. Nuttall elaborated, “I looked and it said ‘You’ve won £61,708,231; dial this number.'”

It is not in their best interest to continue working. Mrs. Nuttall has formally submitted her notice, and Mr. Nuttall, who is self-employed as an accountant, has declared his intention to cease employment in March, after the tax year concludes.

Mr. Nuttall bought new clubs and a bag with his wages since he loves golf. In contrast, his wife indulged in an extravagant purchase of a hairdryer.

Since both of their children are adults and have left the household, they planned to downsize to a bungalow five weeks prior.

He added, “We even discovered one nearby that required significant improvement and were contemplating an offer.”

He continued, “We are currently significantly expanding, providing Debbie and the dog with ample land to play on.” Our lifestyles will be completely transformed.

“Having laboured diligently our entire lives, we are now eagerly anticipating a period of relaxation in our daily lives.”

However, this triumph will also have a transformative impact on our dearest loved ones and, with any luck, the lives of future generations as well.

Charitable Contribution in Nephew’s Memory

Additionally, the couple intends to contribute to BK’s Heroes, a charity that holds a special place in their affections because it was established in the memory of their 27-year-old nephew, Ben King, who tragically succumbed to tubular interstitial necrosis and uveitis, a rare condition.

“This charity means so much to our family, and we are all involved,” said Mr. Nuttall. We raised much more than the original goal for the ward where Ben received such excellent care.

Ben served as an inspiration to the entire group. He exhibited remarkable fortitude and optimism during his treatment. And it was his hope that this charitable organisation would do its utmost to aid future lives.

Andy Carter, senior winners’ adviser at the National Lottery, stated earlier this month: “We are ecstatic to have received a claim; this is truly unbelievable news.

This is the initial jackpot victory of 2024 for the UK EuroMillions, following an extraordinary 2023 in which six jackpots were won, including a £111.7 million prize won by an unidentified single ticket holder in June.

Our current attention is directed towards providing assistance to the most recent fortunate ticket holder throughout the proceedings. We aim to enable them to commence relishing their genuinely transformative victory.
