Police: Torso in plastic at reserve belongs to man

  • Police conduct forensic exam on human torso found in reserve
  • Torso wrapped in plastic identified as man over 40
  • Homicide investigation launched after torso discovery in Salford reserve

A forensic examination of the human torso discovered in a nature reserve in Salford was conducted by the police. The individual is being identified through ongoing DNA tests as police search the Kersal Wetlands.

Police say the human remains discovered in a nature preserve enveloped in plastic belonged to a man older than forty years old.

Thursday’s discovery of a human torso at Kersal Wetlands in Salford, Greater Manchester, prompted the initiation of a homicide investigation.

The victim, according to Greater Manchester Police, is a male in his forties who had been deceased for several days.

Ongoing DNA analysis attempts to identify the subject.

Police stated that their greatest efforts continue to be directed towards identifying the individual, informing and assisting his loved ones, and determining the circumstances that precipitated this tragic result.

Besides the torso, the area yielded no additional findings during the search.

A citizen of the public’s discovery of an “unknown item wrapped in plastic” in a sequestered woodland area prompted an investigation.

No identifying traces were present on the remains.

“Several unknowns surround this case,” according to Salford district commander Chief Superintendent Tony Creely.

Our investigation revolves around the individual in question and his family. We are employing every forensic technique at our disposal to quickly identify him so that we may provide solace to his family and friends during this harrowing period.

He added that while the investigations “will require time,” the police are trying to “provide answers as soon as we can.”

A substantial police perimeter has been established at the predominantly forested reserve, situated to the north of the city centre of Manchester and encompassing an estimated 32 hectares of countryside, according to its official website.

Police stated that search teams, forensics specialists, and a dog unit from the police department have been conducting operations at the location.

Police stated that the local area may continue to experience periodic disruptions.

Anyone who recently observed anything suspicious in the Kersal Dale region was implored to contact the police.
