Teams from Lancashire Police were scouring Walton-le-Dale for a missing person when PD Jax became aggressive and bit its handler. Additional personnel, including armed officers, arrived on the scene and unsuccessfully attempted to subdue the Belgian Malinois.

A police dog was shot and slain after it attacked and turned on its handler.

But all efforts failed, and armed officers shot PD Jax.

The police dog handler sustained a severe injury to his upper limb and remains hospitalized.

Nobody in the public was injured.

The injured handler is receiving complete support’

Superintendent Hassan Khan of the Lancashire Police stated, “This is never an easy decision for any officer to make, but the police are obligated to act when necessary to prevent further harm to officers or members of the public.”

We would never place anyone in danger of additional harm.

These are highly trained, skilled working canines, but like any dog, they can be dangerous in certain situations.

“We are aware of how much the people of Lancashire and beyond, as well as our employees, adore our dogs.”

We are devastated by what has occurred and the consequences of this incident.

Our thoughts are with the injured officer as she undergoes treatment for critical leg injuries, and she has our complete support.
