Nat Sciver-Brunt selected Wisden’s top women’s cricketer

  • Nat Sciver-Brunt becomes first Englishwoman awarded Wisden’s top honor
  • Exceptional performance in 2023 elevates her in women’s cricket
  • Recognition follows record-breaking feats and historic achievements in cricket

The 31-year-old eventually adds an English name to the women’s gong, which has been won five times by Australians in the ten years since its inception, with the nomination from Wisden.

Nat Sciver-Brunt is the inaugural English lady to receive the prestigious Wisden World Cricketer of the Year award.

After an exceptional run of form in 2023, the 31-year-old assumed the leading position in the women’s game. In contrast, Australia captain Pat Cummins was awarded the men’s trophy after guiding his nation to victory in the World Test Championship and 50-over World Cup.

Ben Stokes, who has won the esteemed championship three times in the previous four years, has succeeded him.

The Mumbai Indians recognised Sciver-Brunt’s star status at the beginning of the year when her Women’s Premier League contract worth £320,000 made her the highest-paid female team athlete in the United Kingdom.

After that, she has amassed three ODI centuries across five innings, two of which came in 72 hours as England rallied from a 6-0 deficit to earn an 8-8 draw in the marquee series.

In addition, she established a new English record with a century off 66 balls against Sri Lanka. Before that, she had been dubbed player of the final and the second-leading run scorer in the WPL.

By receiving the nod from Wisden, Sciver-Brunt eventually gives an English name to the women’s gong, an award that Australians have won five times in the ten years since the competition’s inception.
