After power outage, Bristol hospitals announce ‘internal critical incident’

  • Critical incident declared at Bristol hospitals due to electrical malfunction
  • Patients, staff safe; public urged to use alternative services
  • Police assist fire services; multiple road closures in effect

Hospitals in the heart of Bristol have been proclaimed to be experiencing a critical incident; the public is advised to remain away and utilize alternative services as necessary.

All patients are secure, according to the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).

The trust operates several medical facilities, such as the eye hospital, Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, and Bristol Royal Infirmary; however, the specific facilities that have been impacted remain unknown.

Officers of Avon and Somerset Police are assisting fire and rescue personnel about the incident, which the force describes as “likely the result of an electrical malfunction at Bristol Royal Infirmary.”

Dr. Rebecca Maxwell, interim chief medical officer at UHBW, stated that a power disruption has prompted the declaration of a critical incident. We strive to achieve a complete resolution of this matter without delay.

Every patient, guest, and coworker is secure.

We request that the public not visit our facilities in the heart of Bristol until the matter is resolved; instead, they utilize alternative services in the vicinity.

The trust states that it will provide updates on any developments to its social media channels.

Images on social media indicate a substantial presence of emergency services in the vicinity, whereas unverified reports suggest evacuations have taken place.

Six highways, including Upper Maudlin Street, where Bristol Royal Infirmary, Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, and the trust’s headquarters are situated, have been closed, according to the police.

St Michael’s Hill, the location of the nearby St Michael’s Hospital, is also closed.
