Lib Dems say “80 robberies a day” investigations ended last year without a suspect.

Liberal Democrats found that offenders were “let off the hook” while the home secretary was “entangled in endless scandals.”

Last year, according to the Liberal Democrats, investigations into approximately 80 robberies per day were closed without identifying a suspect.

Additionally, the party claimed it had commissioned research indicating that 30,000 robberies in England and Wales went unresolved in 2022.

Home Secretary Suella Braverman has been accused by the Liberal Democrats of becoming “entangled in endless scandals” while convicts are “let off the hook.”

The Home Secretary faced allegations that she had been “let off the hook” after it was verified that she would not be subject to an independent investigation into allegations that she violated the ministerial code in handling her speeding ticket.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he “spent time analysing” the circumstances before not investigating his home secretary.

After committing a speeding violation, Ms. Braverman asked officials if she could take a private speed awareness course.

54% of robbery reports were unresolved, according to research from the House of Commons Library, the Liberal Democrats stated.

According to the party, fewer than one in twelve (8%) cases involved a suspect being prosecuted.

The figures include thefts of personal property accompanied by violence or threats against the victim.

West Midlands Police had the worst performance in 2022, prosecuting 4% of reported robberies.

According to the research, it was closely followed by Northamptonshire (5%), Avon and Somerset (6%), and Hampshire (6%).

Sarah Olney, a representative for the Liberal Democrats and a spokesperson for the Treasury, commissioned the research.

“These shocking statistics demonstrate that robberies have been effectively decriminalized, with far too many violent offenders being let off the hook,” she said.

“Because this Conservative administration has slashed neighborhood policing to the bone, residents feel insecure walking down their local streets.

“Victims of crime are neglected while Home Secretary Suella Braverman is embroiled in countless scandals.”

The Home Office expects police to “take all incidents seriously,” according to a spokesperson.

“We expect the police to take all incidents seriously as robbery is an intrusive and unsettling crime for victims,” he said.

After recruiting 20,000 officers by March 2023, the most ever, we are providing the police with the resources they need.

And we are also supporting the police by providing funding for crime prevention measures, such as improved street lighting and CCTV, and by equipping them with better technology to aid their investigations and help them capture more criminals.
