Titans fired award-winning coach Mike Vrabel

  • Vrabel terminated by Titans
  • Team’s recent poor performance
  • Speculation on future coaching

Mike Vrabel, the former NFL Coach of the Year, has been terminated by the Tennessee Titans, the organisation announced on Tuesday.

Vrabel assumed the role of head coach of the Titans in 2018 and oversaw the team for four consecutive victories, culminating in an appearance in the AFC Championship Game in 2019. Vrabel was named NFL Coach of the Year in 2021; however, the Titans finished 6-18 in his last 24 games and posted losing records in 2022 and 2023. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the organisation intends to restructure its coaching staff. The 2023 Titans concluded the season with a 6-11 record, albeit with five of their defeats being decided by four points or less.

“Amy Adams Strunk, the controlling owner of the Titans, issued the following statement: “I have unabashedly high expectations for the football team and every aspect of the organisation. I will never hesitate to say so.” “Our objective is not merely to earn a surplus of victories over losses; rather, it is to contend consistently for championships.” Although this season was unsatisfactory, there are initial indications of advancement.

We added a young quarterback with great potential and a number of other accomplished players to our roster last season. Given the coaching search, enviable contract space, and position in the top ten of the draft, this offseason is more crucial than any in our history. I am looking forward to the coming weeks and months. We will meet at that juncture.”

Derrick Henry, the star running back for the Titans, was taken aback upon hearing the news of his dismissal.

“Wow. Wow. I am astounded. Coach Vrabel is a male-dominated leader. “He is an outstanding instructor and coach,” Henry told the Athletic. “He will certainly receive another opportunity without delay. I eagerly anticipate it.”

Some have speculated that Vrabel, who won three Super Bowls with the Patriots as a player, will succeed Bill Belichick as head coach in New England.

Following the conclusion of the regular season, Ron Rivera (Washington Commanders) was also dismissed as a head coach. Arthur Smith (Atlanta Falcons) faced a similar fate. The 48-year-old is the most recent to lose his position in recent days. The Patriots’ 4-13 record, Belichick’s worst in New England, has raised questions about his future.
