Hamilton jumps to Ferrari for 2025 F1

  • Hamilton joins Ferrari in 2025
  • Leaves Mercedes after discussions
  • Ferrari’s success uncertain

In 2025, Lewis Hamilton will unexpectedly decide to join Ferrari. An agreement between the seven-time Formula One world champion and the Scuderia will be made public on Thursday evening.

In the past, a potential transfer to Ferrari has been linked to the 39-year-old. Still, he has insisted on staying with his current team, Mercedes, on numerous occasions, implying that he would complete his career with the organization before assuming an ambassadorial position. However, following allegations in Italy that he was in advanced negotiations with Ferrari, Toto Wolff, the team principal of Mercedes, and James Allison, the technical director, convened a staff meeting on Thursday at 2:00 pm.

It is well-known that Hamilton has engaged in conversations with John Elkann, Ferrari’s chief executive officer. Elkann has expressed a distinct desire to bring Hamilton to the Scuderia, and the team acknowledged that they had spoken with Hamilton regarding the possibility of the British driver joining them in 2019. Prior speculation regarding a potential transfer to Ferrari has been disproven; nevertheless, the most recent reports appear to originate from substantive discussions between Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari, and confirmation could be forthcoming by Thursday afternoon.

Hamilton, Mercedes, and Ferrari have not yet responded to the rumors.

In August of last year, Hamilton reached a contractual agreement with Mercedes-Benz to prolong his affiliation with the organization until 2024 and 2025. Nevertheless, he may have been allowed to depart from the second season and become a member of Charles Leclerc’s staff at Maranello.

Since joining Mercedes in 2013, Hamilton has amassed six of his seven world championships. Since 2022, however, their vehicle has lagged significantly behind the dominant Red Bull, rendering him incapable of contending for the championship. Although he has expressed his displeasure and frustration with the team’s performance, he has consistently maintained his belief that they would recover. They are introducing an entirely new design this season to bridge the divide.

However, switching to Ferrari would not ensure success. Last year, they finished third in the constructors’ championship like Red Bull and Mercedes, failing to adjust to new regulations. They have not won a constructors’ championship since 2008 or a drivers’ championship since Kimi Raikkonen did so in 2007.

Hamilton denied talks with Ferrari at the Monaco Grand Prix the year before. After announcing his new contract with Mercedes, he admitted that he was already contemplating his future in the sport. “In regards to the long term, I am contemplating the details of my upcoming contract, including its duration and appearance. I anticipate remaining here for some time,” he declared.
