A stretch? Louvre to provide yoga during Paris Olympics

  • Louvre museum to host yoga, sports sessions before Olympics
  • Visitors can exercise while admiring famous artworks
  • Paris plans cultural events, fan zones for Olympic excitement

Before the Olympics, the Louvre museum in Paris intends to host yoga and sports sessions in its renowned galleries as part of a citywide cultural initiative.

The largest museum in the world will provide opportunities for visitors to engage in yoga, dance, and exercise sessions led by instructors and coaches, all the while admiring its internationally acclaimed paintings and sculptures.

Tuesday’s announcement was one of several designed to generate Olympic enthusiasm prior to the commencement of the Games in Paris on July 26.

Physically, the Louvre is situated in the heart of Paris.” “Physicianically, it will be the epicentre of the Olympic Games,” said museum director Laurence des Cars.

The website provides information regarding the special sessions and the museum’s newly inaugurated exhibition with an Olympic theme.

The inaugural ceremony is scheduled to occur along the Seine, which flows in front of the Louvre. On the adjacent Place de la Concorde, a makeshift arena is currently being constructed to accommodate burlesque and skateboarding. The Olympic flame will also be displayed in the adjacent Tuileries gardens, according to an AFP security source.

Four additional art destinations, including the Musee d’Orsay, which houses masterpieces of the impressionist movement, are also scheduled to host cultural or athletic events related to the Olympics.

Additionally on Tuesday, the City Hall of Paris revealed its blueprints for open-air fan zones, concerts, and public sporting facilities surrounding the City of Light throughout the entirety of the Olympics and Paralympics.

In addition to the establishment of 26 fan zones throughout the capital, two distinct celebration areas will be designated in central and northeastern Paris to facilitate the public reception of medal champions.

The mayor’s office stated, “For the first time in the history of the Games, the host city is striving to create a people’s Games in which Olympic spirit can be shared not only at the stadiums but also in each district and the heart of the city.”

Tuesday marked the inaugural release of a novel mobile phone application for Olympic transport, which was also developed by the regional transport authority.

Tourists who are in Paris will be urged to utilise the “Transport public Paris 2024” application, which will provide real-time traffic and user count information to direct them to Olympic venues.

According to the developers, the recommended routes would not inherently be “the quickest or shortest,” but rather the most practical and ensure that passengers are allocated among various modes of transportation.

Ahead of the Olympic Games, the Paris underground train network is particularly congested, and local politicians have exhorted citizens to walk or ride bicycles.

The inaugural Olympic Games to be held in Paris in a century are scheduled to occur from July 26th to August 11th, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 28th to September 8th.
