Top EVs of 2024: Standout electric cars expected this year

With the approaching prohibition on the sale of new petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicles in 2035, electric vehicles (EVs) are anticipated to gain greater mainstream acceptance.

With the implementation of the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate, which requires automakers to sell a growing proportion of EVs annually, manufacturers are compelled to introduce new, more cost-effective models for our consideration.

Additionally, some will arrive in the future months and weeks.

Which electric vehicles are the most impressive to arrive in the United Kingdom this year? Our ten most promising electric vehicles are compiled here.

  1. Kia EV3

With models like the award-winning EV6, Kia has emerged as a significant player in the electric vehicle market.

Kia aims to enter the compact and, presumably, more affordable segment of the electric vehicle (EV) market in 2024 by introducing the Kia EV3, a compact SUV. The EV3 debuted in 2023 as one of three concepts and will be the first to enter production this year.

Commencing at approximately £28,500, it is probable that it will supplant the defunct and antiquated Kia Soul EV.

There are discernible parallels with the forthcoming and larger electric vehicles, the EV5 and EV9, and stylistic connections to the Soul. Featuring sleek body contours and pointed, boxy silhouettes, it embodies the contemporary rugged aesthetic.

Much emphasis is placed on the environmentally friendly interior, which features mushroom-grown materials and natural fiber weaving.

Range and power output have not yet been disclosed, but given that the EV3 will be constructed on the Hyundai-Kia electric vehicle platform (E-GMP), 58kWh and 77kWh batteries are likely, with the most potent model providing a range of approximately 300 miles.

  1. Dacia Spring
In keeping with the motif of inexpensive electric vehicles, the Dacia Spring is positioned to become the least expensive EV available in Britain. And by a significant margin as well.

Spring is confirmed to begin at £14,995, nearly half the price of the MG4, the cheapest EV currently available in the United Kingdom.

The brand is renowned for producing fuel-efficient motors, but the Spring is so affordable that it will rank sixth among all fuel-powered motors in the United Kingdom.

The 26.8 kWh battery will deliver either 65 or 45 hp, and its range will be approximately 137 miles.

This compact vehicle, essentially a supermini, is well-suited for city travel due to its 308-liter trunk and convenient bi-directional charging.

It is anticipated to significantly disrupt the electric vehicle (EV) industry, compelling other EV manufacturers to lower their pricing.

  1. Fiat Topolino
In addition to being the least expensive new battery model on our list, Fiat’s urban-friendly electric quadricycle will be the prettiest new automobile to hit the road in 2024.

The compact EV, designated Topolino, will be offered in the United Kingdom the following year in two distinct configurations: standard Topolino and an “open” Topolino Dolce Vita with a sunroof…and no doors.

The diminutive automobile, which is the sibling model of the Citroen Ami, is endowed with retro aesthetics such as dish-style tire trims, oval headlamps, and a rear suitcase rack, all of which pay homage to the 1957 debut of the iconic Cinquecento classic.

Additionally, it features a portable shower attachment for individuals seeking to refresh themselves following a strenuous day.

Prices are not yet determined, but they are anticipated to begin at approximately £8,500. However, do not anticipate traveling far or quickly in the delightfully compact electric Fiat, as its range is only 47 miles, and its maximum speed is only 28 mph.

  1. Mini Cooper E
The introduction of the British brand’s new Mini Cooper E is noteworthy, given that Germany’s BMW and the vehicle that owns the marque are exclusively manufactured in China. Historically, the British brand has endeavored to become an electric-only manufacturer.

In contrast to the Mini Electric it replaces, this new electric hatchback with three doors will be built on a customized EV platform.

The price will commence at £31,945 in the United Kingdom, and there will be two powertrain options and three available specifications (Sport, Exclusive, and Classic).

This compact hatchback can now travel up to 250 miles on a single charge, an improvement over the previous electric Mini’s mediocre 143 miles.

The focal point of attention is the 9.4-inch infotainment interface, which Mini claims is the largest circular OLED display ever installed in a production vehicle.

Initial shipments occur in the Spring.

  1. Alpine A290
Alpine’s first electric vehicle will be a hatchback, similar to the Mini, but with a performance-oriented design.

Since its inception by Jean Rédélé in 1955, all Alpine automobiles have adhered to the brand’s three pillars: elegance, agility, and a spirit of competition.

The Alpine A290 electric hot hatch is anticipated to have a handling configuration inspired by racing and deliver significant performance. It marks the debut of the French manufacturer’s first of three forthcoming EVs.

More than 220 horsepower is conceivable on production models; however, exact figures will not be disclosed until the vehicle’s June unveiling.

It resembles an electric Renault 5 on steroids, complete with two false exhausts and an F1-style light on the underside bumper, for a futuristic appearance.

Preliminary reports place the price at approximately £30,000, representing a markup over the less expensive Renault 5.
