The Met Office advised “extra caution” when returning home following the celebrations.
The weather is expected to remain unsettled as many begin to return home from Christmas celebrations. Several yellow weather warnings for ice, rain, and wind will remain in effect beginning on Boxing Day.
Low pressure crossing the United Kingdom on December 26 will bring breezy and rainy conditions for the majority of the country. This is expected to continue for the remainder of the week, according to the Met Office.
An amber warning for ice was issued in northern Scotland at 7:40 p.m. on Christmas Day and is expected to remain in effect until 10:00 a.m. on Boxing Day.
Major towns like Aberdeen and Inverness may experience ice formation when snow melts, making traffic dangerous.
Meteorologist Greg Dewhurst of the Met Office stated, “Boxing Day began chilly, and wintry precipitation will persist from the north for the remainder of the day.
During this time of year, the North has 4C to 6C temperatures and the South 9C to 10C.
The announcement comes after meteorologists formally proclaimed a white Christmas on December 25. Snow began to accumulate in various regions of Scotland.
The record for the highest daily minimum temperature on Christmas Day was eclipsed further south.
The Met Office reported that temperatures at Exeter Airport and East Malling in Kent did not drop below 12.4C (54.3F) between 9 a.m. on Christmas Eve and the same time on Christmas Day.
Exeter Airport reached 13.6 degrees Celsius later in the day, making it the hottest Christmas Day since 2016.
‘Be careful’
United Kingdom-wide Met Office warnings for high winds, precipitation, and the possibility of snowfall were issued once more on Wednesday.
It is highly recommended that you exercise caution when travelling on Wednesday. Mr. Dewhurst predicted that during the southern and western coastal regions, gusts of up to 60 and 70 mph could be observed.

Western regions of England and Wales are anticipated to experience significant precipitation, while certain areas in Scotland may experience snowfall.
Mr. Dewhurst advised, “Today is extremely unequal, so exercise caution.”
The Met Office warns that travel may be disrupted by heavy rain and wind, following the widespread pandemonium that many endured in the days preceding Christmas.
