Erik ten Hag to continue as Manchester United manager

  • Ten Hag to remain as United manager
  • United finished eighth but won FA Cup
  • Club considered other managers, including Tuchel

Despite intense speculation about the 54-year-old Dutchman’s future, United has spent the past two weeks reviewing the 2023–24 season.

The Dutchman’s future at the club has been the subject of much conjecture following a poor Premier League season in which United finished eighth.

However, they surprised rivals Manchester City, the Premier League champions, by winning the FA Cup final 2-1 at Wembley Stadium at the end of the season.

United have spent the last two weeks analyzing the 2023–24 season and general first-team operation, raising fresh worries about Ten Hag’s job.

However, United have decided that the 54-year-old will remain in his position after examining all options.

Ten Hag, who has played with the club for two seasons and helped United win the League Cup in 2023, is currently negotiating a new deal with correspondent Rob Harris.

In 2022, he signed a three-year contract with United that will expire next summer, succeeding interim coach Ralf Rangnick following the dismissal of former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Former Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel met with United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in France last week but is no longer considered for the manager’s position at Old Trafford.

While Ten Hag is aware of allegations that the club has been in contact with potential managers, he has always wanted to stay and has reasonable expectations for his future.

When approached about the possibility of managing United one day, Gareth Southgate showed no interest in discussing anything other than his position as England manager.

Southgate has a solid relationship with INEOS sports director Sir Dave Brailsford, and he worked closely with new FA sporting director Dan Ashworth.

Other media outlets have suggested that United has been following ex-Chelsea and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, Brentford’s Thomas Frank, and former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

Hydrogen driving: We test the fuel cell Ineos Grenadier

Electric vehicles are the future, and everyone agrees on that. That is the mantra offered to motorists who are encouraged to convert to EVs. However, not everyone agrees that the future of motoring will be entirely dominated by plug-in electric vehicles; some believe hydrogen fuel cells may play an essential role. Ineos, owned by buccaneering boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is already developing a robust 4x4 EV called the Fusilier, but it is also considering hydrogen power.

New survey forecasts Tories will win 72 seats in next parliament

According to pollsters, the Tories are on the verge of "electoral extinction," with Reform UK also surging in the rankings. Two polls published today are bad news for Rishi Sunak. One shows a four-point dip, and the other indicates his party will win only 72 seats. A Savanta poll for The Sunday Telegraph found the Tories down four points to 21% of the vote, the lowest by that pollster since the final days of Theresa May's premiership in early 2019.
