Humza Yousaf, the First Minister of Scotland, has reestablished communication with his family in Gaza after a prolonged period of communication disruption.

In-Laws in a Conflict Zone

Mr. Yousaf’s in-laws have been trapped in the region ever since the catastrophic assaults carried out by Hamas within Israel.

Plea for Humanitarian Assistance

The First Minister reported receiving word from them two days later, during which time they had depleted their supplies of potable water.

Mr. Yousaf reiterated his appeal for a cessation of hostilities and insisted that humanitarian assistance be delivered “immediately.”

Internet and telephone connections are gradually being restored in Gaza following a nearly total communications outage that lasted for over a day.

The parents of Mr. Yousaf’s wife, Nadia, namely Elizabeth El-Nakla and her spouse Maged, had been out of contact since Friday morning. Mr. Yousaf expressed concern about their whereabouts.

Before the conflict erupted, they had traveled from their residence in Dundee to Gaza to visit a sick relative.

As Israel escalated its bombardment of the territory and initiated a massive ground operation involving tanks and soldiers, all communication with Gaza was severed.

According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this is the “second stage” of a “prolonged and challenging” conflict with Hamas.

Mr. Yousaf posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, the following: “This morning, word came through from my in-laws in Gaza that they are alive and well, praise God.”

“They are, however, out of potable water.”

The resolution of the United Nations must be implemented.” It is critical that the violence cease, and substantial quantities of aid reach us without any further delay.

Calls for Peace and Aid

In a letter to all British political leaders, the First Minister has urged them to support an armistice in Gaza.

He stated that Israel had the right to defend itself in the wake of the October 7 attacks but added that immediate action is required to halt the “huge humanitarian catastrophe” unfolding in Gaza.

Israel has been conducting airstrikes in the region ever since Hamas abducted 229 individuals and killed 1,400 others.

Since Israel’s reaction began, the Hamas-controlled Gaza health ministry has reported almost 8,000 deaths.

Thousands of Scottish dissidents participated in pro-Palestinian rallies on Saturday in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Dundee.

Similar protests were organized in various cities throughout the United Kingdom, such as Belfast, London, and Manchester.
