- Raya guards home with dog
- XL bully dog law enforced
- Training contract for Goku confirmed
In England and Wales, it became illegal to own an XL bully dog without an exemption certificate at the beginning of this month.
Reports indicate that Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has been protected by an XL Rottweiler dog after several footballers’ homes were reportedly targeted by criminals.
The Sun reports that the 28-year-old Spaniard has allegedly hired professionals to train the dog, named Goku, to guard his property.
This comes just weeks after the possession of an XL bully dog in England and Wales without an exemption certificate became a criminal offence, subjecting owners to seizure, fines, and prosecution.
The Sun reported that Raya and his fiancée, Tatiana Trouboul, hold an exemption certificate for the dog, which they keep in a secure cage at their North London home.
Bulldog Breed Regulations Tightened
Following a series of attacks, the breed was added to the Dangerous Dogs Act on 31 October last year. Additionally, the animals must be muzzled and on a leash when in public.
Recently, burglars and criminal gangs have targeted the homes of several Premier League footballers. Including the Cheshire mansion of Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

Elite Protection Dogs, which trains Goku, informed the publication that the athlete had owned the one-year-old since a puppy.
The company added, “We have a long-term contract for Goku’s training.”
“Everyone familiar with XL bullies is concerned. However, as David is a responsible owner, he wants to take part in that responsibility.”
Approximately 40,000 American giant bulldogs were registered before the 1 February exemption certificate deadline.
Police chiefs have called on the public to report any XL bully owners who break the rules.
A ban on the sale of these dogs was introduced in Scotland on 24 February.
