As a significant emergency response is launched in the east of the capital, five persons are also treated at the scene and transported to a hospital.

A man was detained on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in a flat fire in east London on Thursday evening.

At 5:28 p.m., the police, fire department, and ambulances were dispatched to Tollgate Road in Beckton, Newham.

Five individuals were also treated on-site and transported to the hospital.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service confirmed the fatality and stated that the air ambulance, five ambulance crews, and other personnel were involved in the response.

According to local media, the fire broke out in an apartment block opposite a Lidl supermarket.

The store manager, Raza Nowsin, told MyLondon that individuals were escaping by jumping out of the windows.

“People were everywhere rushing around. “They had a mattress there and were attempting to jump on it, but some people were unsuccessful,” they said.

Another witness stated, “I saw a person jump out of a second-floor window while they were trapped, a sight I never expected to see.”

The Metropolitan Police said one individual was arrested on suspicion of murder and that investigations are ongoing.

The mayor of Newham expressed her sadness via Twitter.

Rokhsana Fiaz expressed gratitude to @LFBNewham firefighters, @MPSNewham, and @Ldn_Ambulance for their emergency response efforts.

“@NewhamOfficers in London collaborate closely with them to assist afflicted residents.

The E6 Tollgate Road has been cordoned off due to today’s serious incident.
