The US killed an Islamic State leader in Syria who planned European strikes.

Khalid ‘Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri was killed in a unilateral strike that did not murder or injure any civilians. According to a statement released by US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Monday.

According to the report, he was a “senior ISIS leader” who was “responsible for planning ISIS attacks in Europe” and “developing the leadership structure” for the terrorist organization.

So his death, according to CENTCOM officials, will “temporarily hinder the organization’s ability to plot external attacks.” It did not specify where in the nation the assault occurred.

The statement warned that “though degraded, the group retains the capacity to conduct operations in the region and the intent to strike beyond the Middle East.”

In 2014, Islamic State established an autonomous “caliphate” in Syria and Iraq. In late 2017, it was defeated following a campaign by the United States and its Western allies.

The United States has targeted senior Islamic State leaders to prevent the group from regaining momentum.

Hamza al-Homsi was slain in a helicopter attack last month, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi in February 2021, and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in October 2019.
