Ten members of the same family, including seven women, were gunned down by assailants in a South African home, according to police.

The police responded to an early morning report of gunfire.
The South African news website News24 quoted police spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker as saying, “Upon arrival, they discovered that ten members of one family had been fatally shot in one of the homes.”
According to him, it is believed that two assailants entered the home and opened fire on the family.
“The motive for the killings is unknown,” he continued.
Mabhungu Mkhize, a local councilor, told SABC News, “A family was attacked while they were sleeping.”
South Africa, with a population of 60 million, has one of the highest murder rates in the globe, with approximately 20,000 murders per year.
Eight people were shot dead at a birthday party in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, in January.
Last year, armed men shot and killed 15 people at a Johannesburg tavern in Soweto.
