- Iranian commander killed in Syria
- Alleged Israeli strike
- Tensions rise between Iran-Israel
A high-ranking Iranian commander was killed in Syria during an alleged Israeli strike, as reported by Persian media.
Seyyed Razi Mousavi, described as an “experienced military adviser” to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps by the semi-official Tasnim news agency, lost his life in an airstrike in the Sayyida Zeinab region southeast of Damascus.
Israel has been conducting military operations in Syria for years, targeting locations it alleges are affiliated with Iran.
The frequency of these assaults has increased in the months following the October 7 attack by Hamas.
Iranian military forces have maintained a presence in Syria since the onset of the Syrian civil conflict, offering support to President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in the face of extensive opposition to his governance.
Mousavi is believed to have been a close associate of IRGC leader Qassem Soleimani, who met his demise at the hands of the United States in 2020. Mousavi was one of the highest-ranking IRGC spies in Syria and coordinated Tehran-Damascus connections, according to Tasnim.

Also the Revolutionary Guards of Iran have threatened to “pay for this crime” against Israel.
The Israeli military has not commented immediately, as it seldom discusses cross-border incursions.
Earlier this month, Iran accused Israel of the murder of two Revolutionary Guards personnel in Syria.
