  • Disney defends 7/7 drama.
  • Survivors criticize reenactment.
  • Focus on de Menezes’ story.

After witnesses called Disney’s proposal to recreate the 7/7 London explosions “horrendous,” the firm defended it.

The production of “Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes,” which recounts the life of an individual inadvertently slain subsequent to the assault, commenced in October.

The aftermath of the bombings, which claimed the lives of 52 people, was depicted in production photos posted online.

According to Disney, the series is “a factual dramatization of events.” They further stated in a press release that their research had been conducted with the utmost sensitivity and regard.

The parents of de Menezes and other relatives are in attendance as consultants for the series. Additionally, producers have engaged in discussions with several individuals and organizations that were actively participating in the events.

On July 7, 2005, four suicide explosions on the Underground and a bus in central London injured almost 700 people.

Focus on 7/7 Aftermath

Nevertheless, the series centers on the de Menezes’s subsequent demise rather than the 7/7 bombings. For the series, which will only depict the aftermath of the bombing in Tavistock Square, no explosives are being recreated.

The bus sequences, in which the actors participated in filming several weeks ago, do not portray any particular individuals.

However, Daniel Biddle, 43, who was injured in the Edgware Road bombing and suffered limb, eye, and spleen loss, stated to the Sun that Disney producers had not sought his input regarding the filming.

He criticized the entertainment behemoth, describing it as “horrendous” and “disrespectful” toward the survivors.

Photographs captured during Disney’s production in Bermondsey, south London, depict a life-size replica of the red double-decker bus that was severely damaged when a device detonated in Tavistock Square, in close proximity to King’s Cross.

George Psaradakis, who drove the No. 30 bus that day, told the Sun that reenacting the scene would be “tasteless.”

He stated that this would cause sorrow for all, but particularly for those who have lost loved ones.

“Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes,” directed by Jeff Pope, is about a police-suspected Brazilian man, Jean Charles de Menezes, who is fatally shot. The film takes place in the immediate aftermath of the 2005 bombings and focuses on de Menezes’s execution.

According to a Disney+ spokesperson, the series is a factual dramatization of the events surrounding the police shooting of the innocent Brazilian shortly after the attempted bombings on July 21.

Concerns and Criticisms

The series’ production team possesses considerable proficiency in this genre of programming, having conducted exhaustive, in-depth research that was handled with the utmost deference and sensitivity. All participants are cognizant of the immense responsibility that accompanies narrating this story.

The scene was filmed several weeks ago, and a variety of factors were “carefully considered” when sourcing the filming location, according to the spokesperson.

During filming, production collaborated closely with Transport for London, the police, the council, the community, and businesses to ensure that everyone was informed in advance that filming would be occurring. Marshals and signage were strategically placed throughout the area on the day of the shoot.

Suella Braverman criticized for ‘lifestyle choice’ remark.
