Virgin Radio weekend host Graham Norton to quit

  • Scanlon responds to Norton’s departure
  • Norton shares listener appreciation
  • Final slot features special interviews

Prior to joining Virgin Radio, the presenter had spent ten years on the airwaves during her thirteen-year tenure with Radio 2.

Graham Norton has decided to resign from his position as the weekend presenter of Virgin Radio.

Norton delivered the unexpected announcement on Saturday morning, informing his audience of his desire to reclaim his “weekends” after thirteen years of radio hosting.

He stated, “Today’s show is a bit different from usual because I have a small announcement to make: I’m leaving weekends at Virgin Radio.”

The chat show host stated that he will not be completely abandoning Virgin, adding, “I will continue to make the occasional appearance on the station, but I am stepping away from my regular Saturday and Sunday schedule.”

His life has changed slightly since he last worked weekends between this location and the previous one thirteen years ago; therefore, he simply desires his weekends back.

Therefore, my remarks for the next two programmes, which air today and tomorrow, will be expressions of appreciation.

A fellow Irish presenter, Angela Scanlon, will cover the vacancy temporarily until a permanent replacement is announced at a later date.

Norton Bids Farewell to Weekends

Scanlon, who participated in Strictly Come Dancing last year, wrote “miss you already” in response to Norton and Virgin Radio’s joint Instagram post confirming the news.

Norton, throughout his Saturday programme, relayed messages of appreciation from listeners who had enjoyed his company over the years.

Following the performance of “You’re The Voice” by John Farnham, he concluded the programme with the following: “That has me rushing out the door.

I will continue to appear on Virgin Radio on occasion, but the weekend will conclude tomorrow.

He stated that his concluding programme will feature interviews with Laura Donnelly, who will appear in the West End production “The Hills Of California”, and Callum Scott Howells.

Norton succeeded Jonathan Ross as host of the 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday programme on Radio 2 in 2010, a position he held for a decade.

Winkleman declared her intention to depart from the programme in March, following a three-year tenure, in order to devote more time to her growing children. Romesh Ranganathan, a comedian, will assume her responsibilities.

Norton continues to host “The Graham Norton Show” on Friday evenings on BBC One.

Additionally, he assumed control of the broadcaster’s Eurovision coverage in 2009, succeeding Irish talk show presenter Terry Wogan in that capacity.

Tomorrow, Norton will have his last weekend slot from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm.

West Ham worry Lucas Paquetá’s career may end if he breaks betting rules

West Ham is deeply concerned about the potential ramifications for Lucas Paquetá's career if he is found guilty of intentionally receiving a booking. The midfielder has been accused by the Football Association of violating betting regulations, a charge that, if proven, could lead to the termination of his career. The allegations against Paquetá, which are of a grave nature, involve him intentionally receiving yellow cards in matches against Leicester, Aston Villa, Leeds, and Bournemouth in 2022 and 2023. The FA, in a statement, has raised suspicions that the Brazil international was directly attempting to influence the progress, conduct, or any other aspect of these matches by intentionally seeking to receive a card from the referee for the improper purpose of affecting the betting market for one or more persons to profit from the booking.
