- Hollywood Standstill: A Month of Stalled Film and TV Productions due to Actors’ and Writers’ Strikes
- Global Impact: UK Productions Also Affected as A-List Celebrities Join Picket Lines and Show Solidarity
It is the first time in 63 years that members of SAG-AFTRA and WGA are on strike at the same time.
A month has passed since the actors’ strike, which has effectively shut down Hollywood’s renowned film and television industries.
On July 14, members of SAG-AFTRA (the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) joined members of the WGA (the Writers Guild of America), who recently marked 100 days of picketing.
It is the first time in 63 years that both organizations, which share similar concerns regarding pay and the use of artificial intelligence (AI), are on strike simultaneously.
And not just American productions are experiencing the effects. Some productions in the United Kingdom have also been affected, including a Formula 1 film starring Brad Pitt, Deadpool 3, and the musical film Wicked.
Here are some A-list celebrities who joined picket lines in Los Angeles and New York, with UK-based celebrities demonstrating solidarity by marching in London in support of their coworkers.
In the meantime, the British acting union Equity conducted a solidarity rally in London’s Leicester Square.
