Turn left at the next intersection: Why the US needs a sustainable third party
The past few months of student protests against Israel's war on Gaza, and the way they were suppressed by the authorities and vilified as "violent" and terror-related even by supposedly left-leaning, progressive political leaders, revealed an important truth: the United States desperately needs a viable, left-to-centre-left third party committed to democracy. The issue is no longer limited to Republicans and their open support of Nazism. The response of President Joe Biden and other top Democrats to the student protests demonstrated that even the party that claims to represent the left in America is now trending right and has an unmistakable anti-democratic bent.
Can a Hezbollah-Israel battle cause Lebanon’s civil war?
Hezbollah's efforts to contain, rather than terminate, the low-level struggle with Israel have elicited praise and condemnation from across Lebanon. The schism dates back to the 1975-1990 civil war when political groupings were divided along class and sectarian lines in favour or opposition to the Palestinian armed struggle against Israel, which was undertaken from Lebanon. Now, as Israel threatens all-out war against Iran-backed Hezbollah, sectarian tensions are rising.
Former DUP leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson to face 18 sex charges
When the Northern Ireland politician was arrested in March, he resigned as the leader of the DUP. Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, the former leader of the DUP, will stand trial on charges of 18 previous sex crimes. District Judge Eamonn King of Newry Magistrates' Court said he was persuaded that Donaldson, 61, and his wife, Lady Eleanor Donaldson, 58, also facing charges, had a prima facie case to answer during the committal hearing.
A mall stabbing in Israel killed one and wounded another
A stabbing attack in a shopping centre in northern Israel killed at least one person and injured another, according to police, who also said the suspect was shot dead. The attack occurred on the second level of the Hutzot Karmiel Mall in the northern Israeli city of Karmiel on Wednesday. Gal Zeid, a spokesperson for Israel's Galilee Medical Center, later revealed that physicians proclaimed one guy dead after failing to resuscitate him. The second person was sent to the hospital's intensive care unit.
As Trump hails ‘huge win’, Biden warns Supreme Court immunity rule lets presidents ‘ignore the law’
The court's decision was made with the support of three conservative judges selected by Donald Trump during his presidency, and it could be critical to his future. According to Joe Biden, the historic finding that previous presidents enjoy immunity breaches the notion that "there are no kings in America." It indicates that the commander-in-chief can now "ignore the law." He spoke after the US Supreme Court ruled that official activities performed while in office are immune from criminal prosecution, but unofficial acts are not.

Why has the Tories slowed UK economic growth?
As the United Kingdom prepares for a general election on Thursday, one subject has become particularly important to voters: the status of the economy. The UK's economy has slowed significantly since the Conservative Party took control 14 years ago. When the immigration-driven population increase and the years preceding the global financial crisis are considered, the slowdown becomes even more pronounced.
Israelis order mass evacuation of Gazans from Khan Younis
The chief of Gaza's central hospital, al Shifa, has been released by Israeli authorities. Mohammed Abu Selmia claimed that he and other captives were subjected to terrible conditions and abuse. The Israeli army has ordered a massive evacuation of Palestinians from the eastern side of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. Israel completed its offensive in the city earlier this year and evacuated the majority of its forces, but this suggests that troops may soon return.
The crucial part of Putin’s machine and how British corporations keep Russian gas flowing into Europe
The Yakov Gakkel tanker sails between Siberia and Europe in winter and summer and contributes to the continent's never-ending gas supply. This is the story of how an insignificant company located in an office block on a quiet street in Glasgow became an accessory to Vladimir Putin's attack on Ukraine. It tells how Europe and Russia continue to have a hostile economic relationship while claiming to have severed ties. It tells the hard truth about why the cost-of-living problem ended.
